McNair High School offers multiple opportunities for students to have athletic experiences, developing student values, attitudes, and skills for personal growth on and off the the teams.

About the Program

Eligibility

Athletes will be ineligible for co-curricular athletic activities for any of the following reasons:

Not maintaining a 2.0 GPA for each grading period
More than (1) F per grading period
Not being enrolled in a minimum of 20 units per grading period
Athletes who are not academically eligible at the beginning of a season will not be allowed to try-out or participate in that season of sport
Not making progress toward graduation requirements
Not meeting attendance requirements (must attend at least 4 full class periods on the day of practice or competition or 2 full class periods on a block schedule day)
Athletes who are suspended from school may not participate in practices or games during the duration of the suspension
Athletes placed on social probation will be ineligible to participate in or attend co-curricular activities during the duration of their social probation period. If an athlete is on social probation at the start of a new season of sport, that athlete wil be ineligible for that season of sport.

Academic eligibility shall be determined by the student’s 1st quarter, 1st semester, 3rd quarter, and 2nd semester grades. Second semester grades will determine eligibility for the first quarter of the next academic school year.

Athlete Expectations

Athletes will follow training rules developed by each coach or advisor. Athletes will abstain from the use and possession of alcoholic beverages, tobacco, and illegal drugs or substances. Athletes will follow rules of behavior and/or conduct.

Athletes share common goals and group loyalties with other team members. Team membership will demand subordination of self-interests to team values. Each athlete will exercise self-discipline and make the personal sacrifice necessary to the attainment of such team goals. The foregoing standards are based upon a fundamental premise that an athlete is in a position of school leadership and should responsibly represent his/her team, school and community in the highest order.

Co-Curricular Code of Ethics

All athletes participating in groups sponsored by the school must meet certain standards. Specifically, the principal must certify that all participating athletes are good citizens. In addition, any athlete involved in a fight, or with drugs or alcohol during school hours/activities will immediately be removed from any team sport or other co-curricular activity such as band, choir, or any other school-related activity for 45 school days and be suspended for up to five (5) days. Athletes will also be removed from co-curricular activities for the use of tobacco products. With the permission of the principal, any co-curricular advisor or coach may impose rules in addition to these standards. Please check with the advisor, coach or Athletic Director for additional information.

Violations of Extra-Curricular Activities

Lodi USD has established a 24-hours-a-day, 7-days-a-week student-athletic behavior policy. No matter the day or time, an athlete caught breaking the rules will result in disciplinary consequences. Discipline will be handled by the respective advisor or coach. Consequences will be based upon considerations the coach, advisor or school administrator feels are in the best interest of the students and squad.

Substance Abuse and Inappropriate Activity

Student-Athletes are expected not to use, possess, or sell, alcohol, controlled substances (drugs) or tobacco (including vaping) 24 hours a day, seven days a week at any time during the school year. This applies both when the athlete is at school and not at school and is verified by a school district employee or law enforcement personnel. The athlete will be subject to the athletic penalties noted below, including a 30-day social probation. Athletes suspended for fighting shall be automatically placed on a 30-day social probation. Failure to follow this expectation will be consequences for an athlete, in addition to the school districts suspension and expulsion consequences for all students.

First Offense

Athlete will be removed from the athletic team for the remainder of the season and may not participate in another sport until the current season ends, which includes any post-season games or tournaments. Awards earned will be forfeited. In addition, the athlete will be subject to the schools discipline code, which involves suspension from school up to three days and a 30-day social probation.

Repeat Offense

A repeat substance abuse offense will result in the elimination of all sports for the remainder of the school year or for the next season of sport, whichever is more. An athlete will receive only one first offense. All other offenses will be considered repeat offenses during the athletes four years within Lodi Unified School District.
